Construction of Solid Concrete Swimming Pools - Kits and Prices

CONCRETE POOLS

Having no separate liner they must be constructed more strongly. Walls are typically a double layer of concrete blocks with steel reinforcing between them. Floors are reinforced concrete tied into walls without joints. A commercially available alternative is gunite - a cement mixture sprayed onto a continuous steel framework.

The entire shell must be waterproofed using a proprietary render. If construction is not perfectly sound, cracks can appear, possibly causing catastrophic leaks, so considerable expertise is essential. This is not a DIY job without the necessary skills and experience. If you use a qualified expert to reduce chances of problems later, expect the finished pool to cost twice as much as other techniques.

One major advantage of concrete shells is the opportunity to make them completely freeform. Walk in steps can be constructed in situ as integral parts of the structure.

The pool can be finished in various ways depending on taste and finances. Please ask us to quote you for the necessary materials.

Paint - Cheapest but needs re-applying every few years. Rubber based last longer than water based but may be harder to repaint. Finished surface usually non-slip.

Marblite - Marble based cement plaster to produce a smooth finish. Attractive when newly polished but porous and prone to permanent staining and problems if the acid/alkali balance of the water is not maintained correctly. It is not possible to mosaic a marbelite surface because tiles won't stick.

Tiles - Mosaics look beautiful when skillfully applied. Ceramic or glass, they come in a wide variety of colours and textures. They can create superb individual finishes and lovely tile bands. Motifs like dolphins are available, and with computer aided design we can reproduce your own personalised touches. Mosaics, though not cheap, are long lasting and easier to clean. A compromise is to tile a band at the waterline, then

Fibreglass - we can arrange a specialist to lay a coloured fibreglass finish onto the concrete walls. The finish is potentially long lasting, but expensive to repair properly if damaged or bleached. Tends to be used to renovate old or damaged pools rather than finish new ones.

Basic building materials for the shell itself are best obtained from local builders merchant and not included. We supply virtually everything else. See typical kit components. Our luxury kits are more comprehensive than our basic packages. Including heavier duty pumps, vacuum-point for convenient pool cleaning, three separate valve controlled suction lines, and ground drainage fittings (as required). Optional items include underwater lights and coping stones.

In-ground pools Lowest UK Kit Prices

Solid concrete pools are not "DIY" in the same sense as Block & Liner pools. Construction will be a lot more costly as greater skill & experience are required. Our deluxe kits contain particularly good value for money compared to our standard kits. Extra pipe and fittings, heavy duty pump, special vacuum-point equipment for easy pool cleaning, and fittings if requested for underpool ground drainage etc. Plus individual valves on three separate suction lines (for skimmer, main drain, and the special vacuum point) so that each can be controlled independently.

If worried about risks and expenses of constructing fully concreted pools, consider less demanding alternatives. See other kinds of pool
